Chitwan National Park is the most popular destination for tourist wanting to have a good experience of the region's wildlife. Therefore, your visit to Nepal won't be completed without a visit to Chitwan. Chitwan is not just the name of a National Park but also of the surrounding Dun valley and administrative district. The name means "Heart of the Jungle" and provides over 70 species of animals including some of the world's endangered species such as Royal Bengal Tiger, Great one horned Rhinoceros, Gaur, Gharial, Crocodile and over 450 species of colorful birds.Sauraha offers a multitude of activities suited for the entertainment of the tourist. It is possible to observe different wild animals and birds in the natural forest of the Chitwan National Park by riding an elephant or vehicle. The adventurous jungle walk, elephant ride, jeep safari, canoe ride, tonka ride, Tharu cultural program, camel ride, elephant bath, observation of wildlife trophy exhibition, views of sunrise and sunset are the major tourist activities available in Sauraha.

Activities in Sauraha National Park:

During the canoe trip on the Rapti river, you will be able to view the full array of nature's beauty including plenty of birds, crocodiles and other animals. There is a chance you may see the two types of crocodiles -Gharial and Mugger basking on the river bank.

VILLAGE TOURS: Experience the uniquely placed culture of the Tharu people. Relish what their culture is like in the Tharu village Museum in the heart of Sauraha in Bachhauli. For centuries, the Tharus have lived very close to this protected area and hence their tradition reflects their intimate relationship with the natural world. Visit the Tharu village and share their world with them as you reach out touch another culture.

ELEPHANT SAFARI: Seated high on the back of a trained elephant exploring the grasslands and core area of the park, you become an integral part of the life of the national park. The elephant safaris, though not the most comfortable ridges, is an amazing experience. And it doesn't take long to spot at least a rhino in these forest.

JUNGLE DRIVE: Bishajari Lake (20 THOUSAND LAKES): The popular Bishahari Lake of Chitwan is an attractive destination for tourist from home and abroad especially Jungle Drive (Jeep Safari). The lake has been listed in the watershed regions in 2003 and has an area of 3200 hectares. The lake considered rich in biodiversity and natural beauty is also a major tourist attraction. Tourists flock at the lake to observe the astounding natural beauty surrounding it. The environment around the lake is also serene and peaceful. The surrounding lush green dense forest add to the beauty of the lake. The sweet sound of chirping birds seem to cast spell in the visitors who are oblivious to passage of time. The lake is extremely suited for observation wildlife and to lose oneself amidst the nature. The dense forest around the lake also offers natural habitat for different wild animals. Aid of guide is advised during the visit to lake. The Bishajari Lake is at a distance of 8 km from Bharatpur along Hakimchowk, Gauriganj and Tharuchowk or 6 km along Gitanagar.

ELEPHANT BREEDING CENTRE: Of all the animals, elephants are probably the most graceful. Our naturalists will take you to the Hattisar to demonstrate. how elephant's meals are prepared and how they eat in the Elephant Breeding Centre. They will explain the nature and habits of elephants. The unique centre was established in 1985 for the captive breeding of domesticated elephants trapping for domestication.

JUNGLE WALK: Walk out and stretch your legs deep into the forest accompanied by professional naturalists as they share their extensive knowledge with you on your way to prime spots in quest of rare and endemic species, Be on the lookout for the great one-horned rhinoceros, wild boar, sloth bear, bison, gangetic dolphins, gharial crocodile and the Royal Bengal Tiger.

ELEPHANT BATHING: Just chill out beside the tranquility of the Rapti River and watch the appealing elephant taking a bath or if it's too tempting, join them while taking a dip down the river.

THARU STICK DANCE: Savour the magnificent culture dance of the Tharu communities watching by the bonfire in the evening in any of the hotels of Sauraha.

Day 01:Kathmandu to Chitwan National Park

1300 hrs Arrival: A reception will be hosted by the Naturalist, refreshment, briefing about the   program and Camp.

1400 hrs: Lunch at Central Dining Hall.

1600 hrs: Visiting elephant stable and Tharu Village.

1930 hrs: Dinner and briefing the program for next day.

Day 02: Chitwan Jungle Safari full day package:

0600 hrs: Wake up call for morning activities

0700 hrs: Breakfast at Central Dining Hall

0730 hrs: Canoe ride for 30 minutes along the government authorities. River and Jungle walk. Chances to see many kinds of birds, Rhinoceros, Deer, Tiger, and many more.

1300 hrs: Lunch at Dining Hall

1500 hrs: Elephant Back Safari through open grassland & forest on back and lookout for Rhino and other wild animal closely but safely.

1700 hrs: Tharu Cultural Program

1930 hrs: Dinner and Overnight Stay


Day 03. Final Departure:

0600 hrs: Wake up call & forward to Bird watching

0800 hrs: Breakfast

0930 hrs: Departure (Kathmandu / Pokhara / Sunauli Border) or extension jeep safari (full day)

Extension Trip:

Day 04: Jeep Safari

09.30 hrs:  Breakfast

10.00 hrs: Full Day Jeep Safari at 20 thousand lake (Pack Lunch)

08.00 hrs: Dinner & Overnight stay

Extra Cost: If clients wish to travel by Flight / Private Transportation or going via Day Rafting OR Bharatpur Airport Shuttle those clients take the flight services. The Cost will be extra cost applicable.

What to bring?

Although the Terai can be cool during the winter, It can be significantly hot during the summer months. If you are headed there in winter, bring along a sweater or jacket. Summer months require cool clothes, good walking shoes, shady hat and sunscreen, Make sure your clothes are in colors-like brown and green-that help you blend into the background. Carry along some mosquito repellant, anti-diarrhea tablets and antihistamines. Meanwhile, along with photo equipment, a pair of binoculars will prove invaluable. If you are closer to the monsoon months, carry some waterproof jackets and an extra pair of shoes. Just in case.

The Terai jungles are also famous for leeches that appear in the monsoon and are around for a few months after, Salt or a lighted cigarette will make them fall off, do not pull them off as the wound may get infected. Try an insect repellent to keep them away.
